The Building Department's role is to promote and assist development in compliance with regulations established by the Ontario Building Code. Building permits regulate the types of construction within the community while ensuring building standards are met. It is your formal permission from the Township to begin your construction, renovation or demolition project. A building permit application is required prior to the commencement of any building project. Your approved plans must comply with the building code, local zoning by-laws and other applicable laws and regulations. If you are not sure whether you need a building permit for your project contact the Building Department. It is the homeowner's responsibility to ensure that a building permit is obtained, when required, prior to any work starting.

Each major phase of construction must be inspected by the Building Official to ensure that the work is in compliance with the building code, the building permit and the approved plans. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to call for inspections when they are required. All mandatory inspections that are required for your project are indicated on your permit. Building and septic permit fees and County development charges are required prior to the issuance of any permits.
The municipality is serviced by septic systems. To install, alter or extend a sewage disposal system a Schedule 2 of the building permit application along with the sewage system application is required.
