The Township of Chatsworth Building Department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Ontario Building Code made under the Building Code Act and any other applicable laws and regulations, as they apply to buildings, structures and their occupancy and in accordance with municipal by-laws such as the Zoning By-law and Property Standards By-law. This is accomplished through the issuance of building, demolition and septic permits and by conducting inspections relating to the same.
A building permit and/or septic permit is a license which grants legal permission to start a project. It means that the Township of Chatsworth has approved plans for any new structure, renovation, addition or demolition or septic system installation, alteration or extension while ensuring that such approved plans comply with all applicable laws and regulations. The plans review, approval & inspection process ensures that standards for structures, fire and life safety, and land use are met. This process was established under the Building Code in order to protect the owner and the public from deficient building standards. Depending on the location and type of project, other approvals may be required. Contact the Building Department for the list of approvals that are required for submission to the Building Department for your project.
