2010 Municipal Election

Elections for the Township of Chatsworth will take place on Monday, October 25, 2010 for the following offices:

Offices to be Elected

Mayor                one (1) to be elected at large
Deputy Mayor   one(1) to be elected at large
Councillor          three (3) one to be elected from each of the three wards
                           (ward maps can be viewed at the Township Municipal Office)

English Language Public School Board Trustee - number to be determined by School Board
English Language Separate School Board Trustee - number to be determined by School Board
French Language Public School Board Trustee - number to be determined by School Board
French Language Separate School Board Trustee - number to be determined by School Board

Nominations
Nomination papers may be filed by candidates or an agent commencing on January 4, 2010 through September 9, 2010 during regular business hours (8:00am-4:00pm) Monday to Friday and on Nomination Day, Friday September 10, 2010 until 2pm.

At the time of filing, each candidate must pay the prescribed nomination filing fee ($200 for the office of Mayor and $100 for all other offices) by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order, payable to the Township of Chatsworth.

Eligibility to Vote
To be an eligible elector in the Township of Chatsworth, you have to be:

  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years of age;
  • Reside in the Township of Chatsworth or be an owner or tenant of land in the Township of Chatsworth, or the spouse of an owner of tenant in the Township of Chatsworth; and
  • Not be prohibited from voting under any law

It is the responsibility of the candidate to determine whether they are qualified to be an elector to hold the office for which they are nominated.  Persons wishing to seek elected municipal or board of education offices should read the relevant legislation and regulations regarding qualifications required for the office (i.e. the Municipal Act, the Education Act, the Municipal Elections Act).

Campaign Expenses
Candidates are required to file a nomination prior to commencing campaign activities, including raising campaign funds and incurring campaign expenses.
